Who is Batgirl?

Character of the DC Comics franchise, Batgirl debuted in Detective Comics #359 in January 1967. Many characters have taken on the mantle of Batgirl, most notably Barbara Gordon, librarian and commissioner Jim Gordon’s daughter. Batgirl is Batman’s female counterpart and his ally in the fight against crime in Gotham City.

In the graphic novel “The Killing Joke” from Alan Moore and Brian Bolland, Barbara gets shot by the Joker and becomes paraplegic. Having to adapt, she starts acting as the hacker “Oracle” with high tech abilities and extremely well-informed, giving support to all the DC Universe characters.

Years after, with experimental physiotherapy, Batgirl returns to the scene in the editorial line reboot “The New 52” combining the Oracle's strength and Barbara's determination.
