From Gotham to Your Shelf: 85 Years of Batman in Collectible Statues!

22 October 2025

He is vengeance. He is the night. He is Batman.
No matter your age, background, or personal taste, one thing is certain: you’ve heard of the Dark Knight.
Created by Bob Kane and refined by Bill Finger in 1939, Batman emerged as a counterpoint to Superman — who was, at the time, DC’s biggest success. While Superman was a colorful, super-powered alien, Batman was a human dressed in black, using only his intelligence, physical conditioning, and discipline as weapons.
From his early comic book appearances inspired by pulp fiction, with a dark atmosphere and a thirst for vengeance after the death of his parents, the character has gone through many phases: the campy, colorful look of the 1960s TV show, the expressionist films by Tim Burton in the ’80s, Joel Schumacher’s neon extravaganza, the dark realism of Christopher Nolan, and the noir, detective-driven approach of the most recent Batman portrayed by Robert Pattinson.
In 2024, the world’s greatest detective celebrates his 85th anniversary — and for many fans, it doesn’t matter whether he came from the comics, the movies, or the games. Everyone has a favorite version of Batman. What’s yours?

Lights, Camera, Action! Batman’s Most Iconic Movies
Did you know Batman made his first screen appearance back in 1943? Long before the classic 1966 TV show, the hero had already starred in black-and-white adaptations. But it was on the big screen that his cinematic journey truly took shape. Let’s take a look back at his movie history:

Batman: The Movie (1966)
Based on the TV series, this film featured Adam West and Burt Ward as a comedic, over-the-top Batman and Robin — a true tribute to the pop style of the ’60s.

Batman (1989) & Batman Returns (1992)
Tim Burton introduced a darker, expressionist Batman, played by Michael Keaton. The films also immortalized iconic villains like the Joker (Jack Nicholson), Catwoman (Michelle Pfeiffer), and the Penguin (Danny DeVito).

Batman Forever (1995)
With Val Kilmer in the lead role, director Joel Schumacher brought more color and extravagance, with standout performances from Jim Carrey (Riddler) and Tommy Lee Jones (Two-Face).

Batman & Robin (1997)
George Clooney donned the cape in a divisive film that nonetheless brought together big names like Arnold Schwarzenegger (Mr. Freeze), Uma Thurman (Poison Ivy), and Alicia Silverstone (Batgirl).

The Dark Knight Trilogy (2005–2012)
Christopher Nolan redefined the hero with realism and depth. Christian Bale shone as Batman, and Heath Ledger’s Joker became legendary — earning him a posthumous Oscar.

Batman v Superman (2016) & Justice League (2017/2021)
Ben Affleck took on the role in a shared universe directed by Zack Snyder, with the director’s cut — the long-awaited Snyder Cut — becoming a highlight for many fans.

The Batman (2022)
Robert Pattinson portrayed a younger, more introspective Bruce Wayne, under Matt Reeves’ direction. A sequel is already confirmed for 2026!
